Fire Stopping Services

Safe Check is partnered with the leading manufacturers of fire stopping systems, to survey and provide retrofit and new construction fire stopping specifically for healthcare facilities.  Our attention to the needs of the healthcare industry makes us the best choice for all your fire stopping requirements.

Joint Commission requires any hospital or residential care facility seeking accreditation to comply with NFPA’s (National Fire Protection Association) Life Safety Code and the Health Care Facilities Handbook.  According to these requirements, healthcare buildings with temporary residential facilities must be divided into fire safety compartments into which, and out of, patients may be moved without having to leave the building.  This is called ‘compartmentation’.

Passive fire protection is designed into the structure to contain fires in the “fire zone or compartment” surrounded by fire resistant walls and floor and with fire resistant swinging doors.  Any penetration in these fire resistant walls or floors reduces the fire rating of the wall or floor to “zero”.  Fire stopping restores the fire resistance of the wall or floor to its original rating.

Safety Tip

Remodeled or recabled your patient rooms lately?

Remodeling or changing plug locations that penetrate a fire wall can have serious consequences for the “fire zone”.  Make sure your building is surveyed for penetrations after a remodel, renovation, installation or rehab to assure that you have identified the areas that need to be fire stopped.  Installation is made much easier with such a survey.
